Measure the outside neck diameter of your loaded cartridge and subtract .002" to .003" to account for brass spring-back and proper neck tension. Alternatively, measure your case neck wall thickness, multiply by two, add your bullet diameter, and subtract .002" to .003".
Flipping the bushing so the markings face toward the case allows the neck to contact a tighter part of the bushing, creating slightly more squeeze on the bullet without purchasing the next smaller size. This is useful for fine-tuning tension or addressing work-hardened brass that has lost grip.
